An alternative style of staff photos – Slice of Life
Before starting the process of getting your staff photos or headshots taken, it is always important to remember there are lots of different styles of portraiture to choose from. A recent trend is to shoot ‘Slice of Life’ where the subject is in the process of carrying out their daily role and the camera is capturing them in action. This style was borrowed from photojournalists whose job was to record events for the newspapers as they were taking place.
Typically the lighting is more natural, the subject is not looking directly at the camera and is focused on the task at hand. By peeking into their world, we are getting a more authentic understanding of who they are and how they work on an everyday basis. This approach is seen by the viewer as more honest and has less of a marketing spin.
Real world example of staff photos – ACG Sunderland Preschool Teacher.
ACG wanted to profile a new teacher at the Sunderland Preschool and demonstrate the wonderful way she works with her young students. After meeting with with the Marketing department, it was agreed that Metro Headshots photographed the staff member at work – capturing her relaxed natural style.
Everyone was pleased with the final results. The children were happy, involved and the Teacher looked very natural, enthusiastic and showed she genuinely cared for the students.
Full credit has to be given to the teacher. Although the photos look very natural, the reality is she was surrounded by a full camera and lighting set up, the photographer, the Marketing team, School Principal, Deputy Principal, the Art Director, Stylist… and a few nervous parents.
